Pediatric Airway oriented orthodontics
We advise our parents against the notion that a child should be examined and treated for irregular teeth/braces after the child turns 13 which yet times would be too late. There is enough evidence out there that crooked teeth/jaws manifest as early as three years if the child is suffering from constant allergies, stuffy nose, mouth breathing, adenoids/tonsils etc. They get worse and complicated as the child grows. Identifying and addressing them early would put the child on right/optimum facial growth trajectory with relatively simple and effective treatment strategies. So we strongly advocate periodical examinations right from the age of three for teeth/jaw irregularities. Maxillary/Madibular expansion (Rapid Maxillary Expansion RME) appliances, 2/4 appliances (Degainer mechanics) , growth medication appliances (Face mask therapy, twin block appliance) , comprehensive fixed orthodontics (Metal/ceramic braces and self ligating braces) are some of the modalities we use.
Myobrace
Myobrace is the newer technique to have straight teeth without braces in children. It is absolutely painless, completely removable , comfortable and children of all age groups love to wear this. Contrary to the popular belief that crooked teeth in children are genetic in origin, recent research provides enough evidence that crooked teeth are due to improper breathing (Mouth breathing, snoring, sleep apnea etc), habits (Incorrect myofunctional habits) like lip-sucking, tongue thrusting, thumb sucking and open mouth posture. These improper functions happening in the face restricts the growth of the jaws thus resulting in small jaws, crooked teeth, prominent front teeth. Myobrace system aims at correction of these improper habits which are the base reasons behind the development of bad bite, crooked teeth , facial imbalance and breathing disorders so that teeth will get straightened automatically making use of the inherent growth potential in the child in a biological approach rather mechanical approach (Fixed braces). Minimal day time wear of 1-2 hrs along with overnight wear and series of activities (exercises) which are designed and tailored in a systematic manner helps in the correction of the issues in a well compliant child.
